SERVE GOD, SERVE ONE ANOTHER, SERVE OUR COMMUNITY

Welcoming 2024 with Prayer

Written by Michelle Thompson

The Fayette SDA Church in Fayetteville, Georgia held an End-of-Year
Banquet on Sunday, December 31, 2023. Members of all age groups dressed in formal attire gathered in the church’s gymnatorium to celebrate an evening of fine dining, soul-stirring music, reflection, and thanksgiving. The program began with words of welcome by Pastors Harvey, Olivo, and Elder Peterson after which prayer was offered by Pastor Harvey. Following the prayer, Pastor Dexter Thomas joined us on Zoom. He had the audience in stitches as he told a series of jokes each funnier than the one before.

After the fun and jokes, several members who served the church in various
capacities were recognized for their years of service. As we clapped in appreciation
hors d’ oeuvres were served to whet our appetites for the main course. As sunset drew nigh everyone’s attention was drawn to the big clock on the screen set for the countdown to 2024. Shouts of Happy New Year were heard around the room as everyone hugged, kissed, and toasted to the start of 2024.

Our guest speaker, Pastor Richie Halversen fittingly entered the stage to
deliver his message just as the main course was being served. Not only were our physical bodies filled with delicious food, but our souls were also nourished by the manna from heaven. To cap off an unforgettable evening, we formed one big circle and sang Side by Side We Stand after which Pastor Halversen offered prayer.
